My "New 7 Wonders of the world" Rationale

Angkor

I chose this site because it is the most important monument of the south-east Asian civilization. It was built by Khmer kings between 8th century and 13th century; Khmerian is the ancestor of Cambodian nowadays. South-east Asian civilization have been influenced by Indian civilization and Chinese civilization; however, they also developed their own original civilization. I think Ankor represents their original civilization.

Chichen Itza

I chose Chichen Itza because I thought it symbolizes the original ancient civilization of North America and Central America. Chichen Itza was the political, economic, and religious center of the Mayan civilization, which was spreaded in Mexico and Central America.(Thank you, Lily!!) Nowadays many aspects of the civilization are still in mistery, but it is obvious that there also was a history before European came to America.

Great Wall

I chose this site because it symbolizes the Chinese civilization. Chinese civilization is one of the oldest civilization in the world, so I think there must be at least one Chinese site in the New 7 Wonders of the World.

Hagia Sophia

Hagia Sophia Once symbolized the Byzantine Empire(East Roman Empire), and then symbolized the Osman Empire long time. Because I wanted to choose a site which can represent Both European civilization and Islam civilization, so I chose this site.

Machu Picchu

This site is the most important monument of the South American Inca Empire. This civilization destroyed by Spanish invaders, and the autonomous history of original American was over. But I think it still symbolizes the culture and civilization of South America.

Taj Mahal

This site is one of the most beautiful architecture in the world. I chose this site because it represents Indian art and architecture. As well known, India also has one of the oldest civilization in the world, and Indian civilization is made of two parts: Hindu culture and Islam culture. I think Taj Mahal symbolizes both Hindu culture and Islam culture in India well.

Timbuktu

I chose this site because it is one of the famous sites in Africa. People did not know there was a glorious civilization around the Timbuktu before it discovered. It is important that the site of Timbuktu changed peoples’ thought about African civilization.
